Study at any age
It’s true you know, you are never too old to learn new things and that includes a foreign language. We have found, yet again this year, that our senior 50 plus English program has been very popular. Many of these senior citizens are over 55 and from European countries. Most of our students on this program arrive with a basic knowledge of English learnt from their school days and simply have a desire to rekindle it. If people are still working, they may need it for professional purposes but the majority want to have the experience, just for fun.
Study and leisure
It is usually the mornings which are taken up with the structured sit down English lessons. Our senior students usually opt for two hours of study with their home tutor. This gives them ample opportunity to revise their grammar, comprehension, listening skills and of course conversation which is ongoing, in and out of the lessons. In the afternoons, students are given the opportunity to do chosen activities or to go on an excursion with the teacher. There is of course plenty of free time to go and explore the Sussex attractions and countryside. Courses are tailor-made and therefore any preferred excursions and activities are chosen by the student.
Our friend Hans
Hans, from Switzerland, was one of our senior 50 plus visitors this year. Hans was particularly interested in the wine industry and so was taken to visit the English wine centre at Alfriston in Sussex as well as having guided tour of the wine department at Plumpton College. He also has a passion for vintage steam engines and was able to go to a steam train fair in a nearby village, with his hosts.
