Our most recent parent and child English language homestay candidates were a father and son, Jean Luc and Clement, from France. All travel arrangements were planned prior to their arrival but despite advising them to arrive at Gatwick, they arrived at Heathrow. However, they managed to cross London and get the train to Hastings from Victoria mainline station.
Their homestay teacher, Debbie Morris, met them at Hastings station and accompanied them back to her home. Debbie lives with her 13 year old daughter Amber, in a beautiful 16th century cottage in the heart of Hastings old town. Clement and his father shared a twin bedroom and enjoyed full board accommodation, for the week.
Clement had a two hour English lesson every day, during their stay. Over the one week period they focused on a range of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Clement was given an entry test upon arrival and an exit test prior to his departure. Due to these tests, Debbie was able to ascertain Clement’s progress during his stay. He also kept a record of his work in a folder as well as a daily diary. In addition to his written work he kept postcards, brochures maps entrance passes etc; as a memory of his visits.
Activities and Excursions
Included in the program was a day and a half excursion with the teacher. They visited the town of Bexhill, Dungeness and Rye. Clement participated in several activities including mini golf, cinema, Smugglers caves, as well as visiting several museums. During his visit he experienced one of our festivals and had the opportunity to listen to some Sea shanties performed by a local group of singers. Come in for himself in family life and helped with simple chores and cooking. He also made some short bread to take home to his family. The evening before Halloween, Clement impressed everyone with his pumpkin carving skills.
Having completed the parent and child English language homestay, for one week, Clement and his father completed a feedback form. They were suitably impressed and were only unhappy with the fact that the stay had been so short. They enjoyed not only the homestay in an English family experience, but also all the activities and excursions. Debbie is one of our top home tutor who always goes the extra mile to make sure her students leave with happy memories and greatly improved English.Read more...For more information
