Aksana Green- Homestay teacher in West Sussex

Location : Brighton – seaside town
Accommodation : Double room / Twin room
Private bathroom
Family: Husband
Pets: None
Interests : Languages,Fitness ,Cinema
General English, Exam prep.and Business English

About me

I am a qualified CELTA teacher, having gained my degree at The British Council. I have taught General and Business English to students and corporate clients in The Middle East, Spain, Russia and Central Asia. I have also worked with young learners after completing CELTYL and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Since returning to the UK, I spent 5 years in primary education and continued hosting/teaching English students. I also work as a Business Consultant in the hospitality sector, mainly from home but also spend two or three days a week on sites. I love the contrast of the restaurant business with teaching. After all, both are equally challenging!

Brighton & Hove has the highest level of restaurants per capita of anywhere in the UK outside of London. This makes it a particularly exciting and vibrant place to live with my ‘gastronomic’ knowledge and insight of the business. If you are a ‘foodie’, I’ll be able to point you towards good quality and value places to have an enjoyable meal.

I live in the Hove area which has been named one of the UK best places to live. My home is a pretty, semi-detached maisonette, set in a beautiful period property. There are 3 bedrooms and … 4 bathrooms, so no queueing in the morning. My home is just 200 meters from the sea and Hove lagoon, offering many watersport activities. Central Brighton is only ten minute bus ride.

We have just renovated our house and it now looks very Scandinavian so if you are from Denmark, you’ll probably feel like you never left home!

I live with my partner John who works in London (Banking and Finance). He spends most of time there or in his office in Hove. I am a mother to two grown up girls and a grandmother to a beautiful baby girl. They are all living abroad.

I like to keep fit and I am a regular gym visitor! I also enjoy cooking if I have time but have to admit, I am not as good as John. We both enjoy socialising, cinema, music, art and theatre.

About me

My name is Linda and I live with my partner Jig and two of my children. We also have a gorgeous black labrador. I am Mum to Georgina 24, Laurie 19 and Ayanna 9 years. The two youngest still live at home.
Qualified in TEFL teaching, I also home tutor my youngest daughter and have a wealth of experience in teaching and interacting with children of all ages and abilities As well as formal teaching I encourage full participation in all family activities which not only gives the pupils a feeling of inclusion but also helps them with their everyday English language learning. Dependent upon their interests this may include cooking, walking in the park, shopping or simply chatting or “chilling” with my other children and their friends. These are options and outside of the structured lessons the students are free to pursue their own interests if they wish but are always welcome to join in with us and are encouraged to do so.
We live in a Victorian house in St Leonards-on-Sea close to the town of Hastings in East Sussex where our guests have their own room and we also have plenty of space where they can study. Whilst we live in a quiet street there are shops nearby, a large park and we also have access to a large private garden where people of all ages can play and relax. There are regular buses to the town centre with all its facilities and the nearby train station means we are only 90 minutes from central London.I also try to structure our excursions around the individual interests of each student and take them to places that are not just educational but also interesting to them. I am fortunate that a close family friend who also has a TEFL qualification has been involved for many years in organising travel and excursions and has a keen interest in local history so is always on hand for that little bit extra.
We are a multi-cultural, well-travelled, family who delight in welcoming new people to our home and sharing our lives with them. We offer a fully immersive experience into British family life and culture and our students are encouraged to involve themselves in all aspects of our daily routine, during their stay they are part of our family. Over the years we have welcomed many students into our home, some more than once and have been very encouraged by the amount of positive feedback we receive.

About me

Tony is an engineer, with a career spent in IT, telecommunications and effecting business improvements.  In recent years he was running a telecommunications business that he started in 2001.  Currently, he is coaching students of all ages to improve their ability in the English language.

Sheila is a teacher, who has applied this skill in the UK and several overseas countries.  As a class teacher in Saudi Arabia, she ran the reception class for non-native speakers of English.  In Pakistan she taught English as a Foreign Language (EFL) to students of all ages from a variety of countries.

Work has taken us to many places around the world, often for durations of several years.  These periods have afforded us the privilege to learn, in some depth, about the people and places where we have lived.

Qualifications – Tony, MSc (Birmingham University); BSc (London University); Chartered Engineer.

Qualifications – Sheila, Teaching Certificate (London University)

Our house is in a village location about 2 miles from the historic town of Battle, where, in October, the Battle of Hastings is re-enacted.  Hastings is about 8 miles away next to the sea.  In the other direction is the pleasant town of Tunbridge Wells.  The railway links Battle to London, Ashford (for the Eurotunnel) and Gatwick (for the airlines).

Our village is in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is consequently protected from inappropriate new building.

Local amenities include tennis, golf, horse-riding, walks through unspoiled country and woodland.  Within easy reach by car are sailing clubs, swimming pools, fitness centres, art galleries, museums, cinemas, vineyards, castles, historic homes, pubs and restaurants.

Hastings has an interesting Old Town, with many cafes, a fishing fleet, aquarium, antique shops and artists’ work shops

We live in a house close to the pub in the centre of Whatlington.  The house has an elevated location with extensive views across the valley behind, to Battle in the distance.  In the valley there is a large area of woodland that offers many lovely walks.

You will have your own newly-decorated room, with a hanging wardrobe and work area.  You will be able to share the broadband connection and there is a television in the sitting room.

Lessons are usually given in the comfortable conservatory, overlooking the garden, and you may continue to work there afterwards, or at your desk upstairs.

Travel, whenever we get the opportunity.  We have 3 children, two of whom live quite close, in Brighton.  The other is currently living in Manila with her husband and little boy.

Otherwise we have interests which include history, current affairs, art, drama, music, science and technology.
