Interests : Cooking, keeping fit, spending time with family, visiting London
General English

About me

For me, venturing into teaching was solely to help young people open their minds to the complexities around them and in turn for them to better their prospects in life. I am fortunate to say that throughout my career this has come to fruition, as many of my ex-pupils have gone onto build successful careers for themselves. My teaching career began in 2005 at a school which had pupils from over thirty nationalities. The wealth of languages spoken by pupils was extremely diverse and this fostered my interest into the study and teaching of pupils with English as an additional language. As a secondary school English teacher; I was able to create resources for both mainstream and newly arrived pupils to access the English curriculum. I would often work on a Saturday to help such pupils catch up on their work and help them gain a better command of their learning.

If you were to stay with us we would take you to places such as the beach, theme parks, trips to various castles or palaces, cinema and explore museums and attractions in London.

I enjoy cooking and going to the gym and from time to time I invite the neighbours over for a meal. During the weekends we usually go on excursions, exploring various parts of the south coast and the city of London.

We are 15 minutes from Gatwick airport and live in a five bedroom town house which is spread over two floors. The first floor comprises of a living room, kitchen/dinging room and a toilet. The second floor has two bedrooms which is our sleeping quarters and the third floor has three bedrooms and a bathroom.

My family and I have a halal diet therefore if required we can easily accommodate anyone with such preference.

We do not have any pets.

I have taught English in a wide range of forums, from the University of Reykjavik in Iceland to an open prison for men in the Kent countryside. I have taught advanced students, complete beginners and young students. For the past year I have been working as a tutor on a Management Training Course. I have also recently been assisting on a Business Studies course: teaching the Business Law element.

I also worked as a lawyer for a number of years for a large, city law firm. I specialised in commercial litigation, covering areas such as insolvency, professional negligence and general contract disputes.

I am very interested in philosophy and politics. I love reading and writing on these issues. I also greatly enjoy films and like to go the cinema whenever I can. I also very much enjoy listening to music and am a regular attendee at the many festivals and free music events that Hastings has made so popular. I also like keeping fit by walking and going to the gym.

I live alone and am able to provide comfortable accommodation compromising of 3 student rooms: two singles on the top floor, next to a cosy study. On the third floor there is a small double room for a single student or a couple. There is a separate wet room with shower, W.C and wash basin on the ground floor. About me

I’d like to introduce you to myself and my small family here in Hastings. I’m Deirdre and come from Ireland. I live with Phil who is from Northern England and our lovely little Maltese dog Seamus. Phil’s son Niall works with him. Niall is born and bred in Hastings and although he doesn’t live with us, he is often around.

I’ve loved living in England for the last 20 years especially Hastings with it’s historic Old Town, festivals, beautiful seaside beaches, superb shopping, cafe culture and fish ‘n chips! The surrounding English countryside with it’s quaint villages, historic castles and fabulous country walks, is well worth a visit.

We live in a cosy and comfortable Victorian house and often have a small family of international students. We can offer a private double ot twin room with a private bathroom, if requested. There is no better or fun way to learn English than living and learning with an English speaking family.

I love cooking and baking and we enjoy eating together around our big dining room table. My Irish warmth and hospitality ensure that your stay with us will be as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Phil’s Northern English charm will have you laughing off your chairs. Well maybe…………..but he does cook an excellent curry.

We live in St Leonard’s on Sea, which joins it’s sister town of Hastings along the impressive seafront. St Leonard’s is easy to get to, it’s a direct train from Gatwick airport, London, Brighton and many more places of interest.

It’s also easy to get away from(!) and we can organise trips away to local/national places of interest.

We look forward to welcoming you to our home.

About me

I am a qualified CELTA teacher, having gained my degree at The British Council. I have taught General and Business English to students and corporate clients in The Middle East, Spain, Russia and Central Asia. I have also worked with young learners after completing CELTYL and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Since returning to the UK, I spent 5 years in primary education and continued hosting/teaching English students. I also work as a Business Consultant in the hospitality sector, mainly from home but also spend two or three days a week on sites. I love the contrast of the restaurant business with teaching. After all, both are equally challenging!

Brighton & Hove has the highest level of restaurants per capita of anywhere in the UK outside of London. This makes it a particularly exciting and vibrant place to live with my ‘gastronomic’ knowledge and insight of the business. If you are a ‘foodie’, I’ll be able to point you towards good quality and value places to have an enjoyable meal.

I live in the Hove area which has been named one of the UK best places to live. My home is a pretty, semi-detached maisonette, set in a beautiful period property. There are 3 bedrooms and … 4 bathrooms, so no queueing in the morning. My home is just 200 meters from the sea and Hove lagoon, offering many watersport activities. Central Brighton is only ten minute bus ride.

We have just renovated our house and it now looks very Scandinavian so if you are from Denmark, you’ll probably feel like you never left home!

I live with my partner John who works in London (Banking and Finance). He spends most of time there or in his office in Hove. I am a mother to two grown up girls and a grandmother to a beautiful baby girl. They are all living abroad.

I like to keep fit and I am a regular gym visitor! I also enjoy cooking if I have time but have to admit, I am not as good as John. We both enjoy socialising, cinema, music, art and theatre.

About me

My name is Linda and I live with my partner Jig and one of my children. We also have a gorgeous black labrador. I am Mum to Georgina 24, Laurie 19 and Ayanna 10 years. The youngest still lives at home.
Qualified in TEFL teaching, I also home tutor my youngest daughter and have a wealth of experience in teaching and interacting with children of all ages and abilities As well as formal teaching I encourage full participation in all family activities which not only gives the pupils a feeling of inclusion but also helps them with their everyday English language learning. Dependent upon their interests this may include cooking, walking in the park, shopping or simply chatting or “chilling” with my other children and their friends. These are options and outside of the structured lessons the students are free to pursue their own interests if they wish but are always welcome to join in with us and are encouraged to do so.

There are regular buses to the town centre with all its facilities and the nearby train station means we are only 90 minutes from central London.I also try to structure our excursions around the individual interests of each student and take them to places that are not just educational but also interesting to them. I am fortunate that a close family friend who also has a TEFL qualification has been involved for many years in organising travel and excursions and has a keen interest in local history so is always on hand for that little bit extra.
We are a multi-cultural, well-travelled, family who delight in welcoming new people to our home and sharing our lives with them. We offer a fully immersive experience into British family life and culture and our students are encouraged to involve themselves in all aspects of our daily routine, during their stay they are part of our family. Over the years we have welcomed many students into our home, some more than once and have been very encouraged by the amount of positive feedback we receive.

I’d happily accommodate someone with special needs, in fact my 2nd daughter Maisie has mild learning difficulties which include dyslexia and being on the autistic spectrum.
For most of my life I’ve worked as a journalist and film producer so use the art of storytelling, through using digital media such as filmmaking or podcasting, to bring student’s English literacy to life in a creative way. I’ve travelled across the world from Indonesia to Peru doing this work so have an endless fascination for languages, different cultures and art. I’m equally fascinated with the culture of Britain and regularly visit film festivals, music festivals and cultural events across the South East of England.
As a hobby artist blacksmith I can also be found in my working forge on the property making everything from gates and railings to sculptures. We have a cat called Blue and 7 friendly chickens and a very productive vegetable patch at the end of our large garden. We live at the edge of the creative beautiful town of Hastings, just metres away from the coastal country park but also a short bus ride away from Hastings old town. We are 40 miles from London Gatwick Airport and can pick-up and drop off students from the airport at additional cost.

SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS

My homestay tuition experience was great! Andrea was the best teacher I have ever had. She is so nice ,friendly and kind. Her English lessons are really professional. I improved my English and had lots of fun. The combination of English learning in the morning and excursions in the afternoon was perfect. I loved to spend time with Andrea and her husband Steve in their wonderful house in the middle of the Scottish Highlands.
