I have taught English in schools, at home on a private basis and as voluntary work in the Far East. I am now concentrating on liaising between students and teachers ensuring that students are placed with the most compatible teacher.

About me

I am a CELTA qualified teacher with experience in teaching general English to French, Italian, Dutch, Czech, Russian and Japanese children and young people (ages 9-18) and Thai, Chinese, Omani, Iraqi and Finnish adults in both open and closed groups. My business career and MBA training have given me key insight to support teaching business English, which has been informed by working in non-British contexts in Germany, Austria, Finland, and with French colleagues. I am culturally sensitive, with skills in team building and motivation. I am very interested in working with people from other countries and cultures – learning from them and sharing ideas, including my love of the English l!anguage and culture.
As well as having the CELTA language qualification, I have a 1st class degree in English and American Studies and an MBA. My business background is in telecoms, mainly in mobile data solutions development and business development.
I live in Faversham, Kent, with my husband Steve. I have two children: Harriet, who is 25 and lives in Canterbury; and Jonathan, who is 23 and at university in Liverpool. Both my husband and I have current DBS clearance. My interests are garden design, walking, running, literature, theatre, opera and cooking, and I would be delighted to share any of these with visitors. My husband is a local historian and naturalist, and we can offer historical tours of the town and bird-watching trips in the coastal marshes just north of the town and elsewhere in Kent. Both my husband and I have a good knowledge of the sites in near-by Canterbury and London, and we would be delighted to share this with visitors. I am a good cook and love entertaining, and it would be a pleasure to welcome foreign visitors to meals and celebrations with our family and friends. Although our children are grown up and left home now, we spend a lot of our time with them and with their friends. We have friends who have teenage children, and we are in touch with fun activities for young people. My son is a keen skate-boarder and swimmer.
We can offer comfortable double-room accommodation with a modern, private bathroom. Our house is a four-bedroomed detached house with a pretty garden, which has a sunny outdoor seating area.
Faversham is a beautiful medieval town in Kent – the Garden of England – with many architecturally important buildings, including the Grade 1 Listed Parish Church, with its medieval wall paintings. The town is well situated, close to the cultural, historical and business centres of London and Canterbury, a designated World Heritage Site, and 25 miles from the Channel ports.
Faversham has good facilities, including a recreation ground, and indoor and outdoor swimming pool, with 3-tier diving board and water-park. We are less than four miles from the north Kent coast, and we enjoy spending time on the beach walking and swimming – and having beach barbecues on summer evenings. Faversham is in the heart of the Kent countryside, with close access to lovely country and coastal walks. If shopping is of interest, we are within a 30 minute drive of one of the largest shopping centres in Europe – Bluewater.

Location : Sandwich- town
Accommodation offered : Twin / Double bedroom
Shared bathroom
Family at home: Son 16 years
Pets: Horses and dog
Interests :Horseriding, Museums, Cooking, Seaside excursions
General English,Exam prep.

About me

My name is Cathie.  I am a CELTA qualified English teacher having hosted students for the past six or seven years.   I have taught all ages and nationalities from beginner to advanced teaching 1 to 1 and in the summer months 2:1. I am always very proud of the progress my students make whether they stay with me for a week or a month or longer!   My students also all love joining in the active lifestyle I lead.  I am a single parent with two nearly grown up children.  My daughter is studying to be a Physiotherapist at Birmingham University and my son is studying A levels at the Grammar School opposite our house.

The family has two horses, my own retired dressage horse and my daughter’s horse – a good show jumper and dressage horse.  In the summer we attend local horse shows which the students always love participating in as a typical English past time.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching and taking students on excursions and activities of their choice.  We are very close to London by train (a one hour journey) and visits to London are a popular request for sightseeing, shopping or both.  My market town of Sandwich is very beautiful, full of historical buildings but very safe for teenagers to visit.  Our nearest seaside town is Deal which was voted as having the best high street in the UK so well worth a visit!   Canterbury is our nearest big city with fantastic shops, the cathedral, boat trips, walks etc.  We are also close to castles if students are interested in visiting these, Deal, Walmer, Dover and Leeds castles.  For very keen shoppers I have taken students to Bicester village for a day trip where they have picked up many many bargains.

There are many sporting activities which can be arranged locally and we have a number of swimming pools and, of course, the sea with beautiful beaches to relax and enjoy.  We have local cinemas which everyone always enjoys and lots of little English cafes to enjoy the traditional English tea.

About me

I am a qualified teacher of English as a foreign language.  I have taught classes but prefer one-to-one (or two-to-one) as it allows me to focus on the student’s needs and goals.

In my previous career as a general manager, I used to enjoy coaching members of my team to develop their skills.  Since 2011, I have hosted many foreign adult guests (professionals and students) and enjoy meeting new people, getting to know them and helping them improve their English.  I have a degree in English and an MBA, which gives me a good background to teach general and business English.  I speak French, Italian and have some knowledge of German.

I am lucky to live in a really nice house in Canterbury.  It is unique, comfortable and has lots of space. In the summer, we spend a lot of time on the patio, whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner or just a cup of tea and a chat.  My guests say I’m a good cook (I serve British and other countries’ dishes).  Canterbury is a small beautiful city with many historical buildings, cafés/restaurants and a cosmopolitan relaxed atmosphere.  It takes less than one hour to go to London by train and the coast is 20 minutes away by car.   There are loads of other destinations to explore in Kent.  Gatwick, Heathrow and Stansted airports are all about 1h 30 min away.  We are also very close to ferries in Dover, Eurostar in Ashford and the Channel Tunnel.

I enjoy travelling, yoga, dancing, reading, walking, dinners with friends and going round boot and antique fairs.  I look forward to welcoming you to our English experience.

General English

About me

I am a Cert.Ed qualified teacher with experience teaching Basic English for several years at Bromley Adult Education College. I have also taught English to students (ages 8 – 18) in France and Austria. I am a fluent French and German speaker and have taught French for over 15 years privately to business people as well as to primary school-age children in my own after-school languages club. I have also taught French abroad on Ascension Island to engineers working at the European Space Agency. Speaking French and German I understand the challenges of interacting and working in a foreign language.

My husband Paul and I have some very good friends in both France and Germany and we love to keep in touch with them and meet up with them both here and at their own homes and we feel that these friendships have enriched our lives.

As well as the Cert. Ed I have a BA(Hons) degree in French and German and also the DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française). Before teaching I worked in London for many years, first as a PA to a Member of Parliament at the Houses of Parliament and then as PA to the Deputy Director of the Design Council. My husband and I have DBS clearance.

We both work part-time as volunteers for a local charity, the Canterbury Oast Trust, which supports adults with learning difficulties in living independently and taking control of their lives. We are situated next to the sea and enjoy cycling and walking the coastal paths – here on the Romney Marsh it is very flat! We have four adult bicycles available for free use. The local sports centre offers a wide range of activities including all kinds of ‘keep fit’ such as yoga as well as outdoor activities like football. There is also a free open air fitness area ten minutes walk away. We also have two golf courses on our doorstep.

We live in Littlestone, Kent just a few steps from the beach. It is very quiet and peaceful here. We live in a detached house and can offer as upstairs accommodation the whole of the east wing of the house. To share with us downstairs are two living rooms (one with an electric piano and electric guitar for the musically inclined), as well as a kitchen/diner/sitting area overlooking the pretty garden and patio – all offering a very pleasant and spacious living environment. I enjoy cooking traditional English food and international dishes and I can cater for special dietary needs, eg vegetarian.

Littlestone is within walking distance of New Romney with all of its amenities, which include a small library, pubs, a fish-and-chip shop, tea rooms offering traditional English cream teas, beauty treatment salons, hairdressers and a delicatessen, as well as a butcher, greengrocer, general grocer, a large Sainsburys supermarket and a number of churches. Even closer is the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, a ‘mainline railway in miniature’ with one-third scale passenger-carrying steam and diesel locomotives running on 22km of track. There is a bus route to the nearby towns of Hythe and Folkestone in one direction and Rye in the other. Further afield are Hastings, Tenterden and Canterbury, all lovely historical towns to visit offering a great deal for the tourist.

We can offer transport to Ashford International railway station (Eurostar) for a transfer fee.

About me

My name is Richard Goss, and I love languages and have taught English to adults from all round the world.  I trained as a teacher and used to teach English, French and German in a London secondary school.  My last job was Head of English for a group of colleges in Saudi Arabia, and I enjoyed teaching Arab teenagers to speak English.

I live in a beautiful house with my wife Julia.  Our children have now grown up and left home so we have two spare bedrooms for guests to stay and learn English.  Each bedroom has two beds, so we can host a family, or a small group.  I teach children and adults at home.

We have a pretty garden and like living in the countryside.  Our village is called Kemsing and has a friendly pub and shops. We like playing tennis on the village tennis courts and walking on the nearby hills.  Julia likes swimming at the pool at Sevenoaks, which is 5km away and our nearest town. It has some good shops and cafes and a large deer park.  We go to London quite a lot as the train stations are close and trains to central London only take about 35 minutes.  Sometimes we visit some of the wonderful places in Kent, like Canterbury and Leeds Castle and Chartwell, which was Winston Churchill’s house. In the summer, we often go to the seaside.  We like travelling abroad and Gatwick Airport is only 40 minutes drive away. Heathrow is about an hour and a half away, or less if there is not much traffic.

We would love to welcome you to share our house, to enjoy Julia’s home cooking and above all to learn English in a beautiful part of England!

  General English

About me

My wife and I both have long teaching careers. For the last 30 years, I have mostly taught girls ages 11-18. However, I did teach 7-8 year olds for two years.  My teaching experience included responsibilities in a boarding house where I looked after over 60 teenagers.  I was also able to qualify to teach mindfulness and was able to teach students, staff and parents at Benenden School. Mindfulness had a major impact on the lives of those I taught.  In July 2016, I decided to take early retirement to pursue new interests. For example, I studied for the Cert TESOL which I passed. I have a 2:1 Honours degree from the University of Leeds and a PGCE from Christ Church. I trained as a teacher and have taught children, young adults and adults a variety of subjects including English, Religious Studies, History, Critical Thinking and Politics.

My wife also has an Honours Degree from the University of Leeds and is equally well qualified to teach. Kate trained as a teacher of younger children and was very successful in developing the minds of children from the ages of 5 to 11. She has also taught students aged 11-16 Science and DT. For the last three years, she has been working at Benenden School in a variety of roles including assisting in one of the boarding houses.

We have 3 grown up children. Emilia has a French degree and lives nearby in her own home with her partner, Jason. My younger daughter Laura completed her English degree recently and now lives in London. My son Edward is in the third year of an Engineering degree at Nottingham. We always look forward to having him home in the holidays.

We enjoy the local countryside for walks, bike rides and picnics. I enjoy variety in my life and so seek to make the most of all that is available in the south east of England including London.  In recent years, I have attended major music festivals, enjoyed the theatre and have been to several West End shows.  I am passionate about music so much that I have even tried to create it myself. I love a good book and very happily will sit in front of a great film with a beer. My wife and best friend also shares my interests.

Sittingbourne is a town of about 60,000 people in Kent, “The Garden of England”

Our home is on the very edge of the town in a modern housing estate. Directly behind our garden is a children’s play park, fenced football/basketball enclosure and a wildlife conservation area. A short stroll takes you to a traditional English village green, complete with pond, school, tea shop and a village pub. Cromer’s Wood, a Kent Wildlife Trust woodland site, is 20 minutes’ walk from home.

We are an easy drive from the coast, with Dover Castle, Leeds Castle, The Turner Gallery, Margate and several National Trust and English Heritage properties to visit.

Faversham, the next town, has a historic cinema, numerous musical and cultural events and a thriving town marketplace. In the summer a delightful outdoors swimming pool complex is worth a visit. We also benefit from having Bluewater very close which is the best shopping paradise in the UK. There is also London not too far away.

Our 4-bedroom detached house has a sunny garden and parking available. We have a 7- seater vehicle for transporting small groups. The house is comfortable with a double and a twin bedroom available on the top floor for our guests, with their own private shower room; an additional bathroom and downstairs lavatory are available for guests to use.  We like to think that our guests are able to relax and enjoy our house as much as we do.

Sittingbourne is very easy to get to by rail or road. The railway station has trains to London and the Kent coast. It is close to major roads which mean it is easy to reach London’s airports.  We can arrange transfers to/from the airport when requested.

Family : Husband and daughter 2 years old
Pets : Cat
Interests : Cultural Activities, Board Games, Films/cinema, Swimming, Snooker, TV & reading
General English , C&C

About me

Hello we are the Hearn family and we look forward to welcoming you for a homestay immersion holiday with our family.  Our family consists of me (Lindsay – 36), my husband (Gary-43) and our darling daughter Hannah who will be three years old this November.

I am a qualified and experienced teacher and Gary is a Mortgage and Financial Adviser. We love welcoming young international students into our home to share our family life with you and help you improve your English.  We feel this broadens and enriches our family life.  My parents began doing this when I was very young and this has always been a way of life for me.  I have been doing it myself for ten years and with Gary since before we were married.

Gary and I are very interested in history and culture.  Gary has a passion for snooker and is always willing to teach any student who would like to learn this very British game.  We also love board and table-top games.  We love British comedy and Satire. We are members of English Heritage and will happily take you to some local places of historical interest or if you prefer we can organise swimming, shopping, bowling, cinema, trampolining, Ice-skating there is plenty to do around here.

Hannah simply adores having different people come and stay in our house. Whenever we tell her that a new person will be coming her face ‘lights up’.  She loves getting to know each guest.  She is a very clever little girl and her confidence and language are extremely good for her age and we credit much of this to our hosting project.

My mum lives within walking distance and is a CELTA qualified English as a Second Language teacher too.  She also still hosts international students.  As long as she doesn’t have a student with the same native tongue as you at the time you will also see quite a lot of her and it is someone else for you to practice you English on.

We have a three-bedroom house in Sittingbourne a town in north Kent about 30 minutes away from the historical city of Canterbury.  Our house is close to the centre of town, within easy walking distance to the train station, bus stops, local shops, leisure centre with swimming pool, gym and exercise classes, the library, parks and playgrounds.

We won’t be limited to Sittingbourne however as Gary, my mum and I all have our own cars each with a car seat for Hannah and we adore getting out and about.  Sometimes we’ll all go together and other times you’ll enjoy some more personal 1-1 time with each us, this will keep your days nice and varied for you.

Your bedroom has adult-bunk-beds so you can come by yourself or come with a friend to share the lessons and activities with. You will still learn just as much English but also have the chance to share the experience and double the fun!

Although Gary (like my mum) also has a qualification to teach English and they will be great for ‘hot correction’ and interesting English conversations.  I will be your sole English teacher for your official English lessons.  I am an experienced and qualified teacher who holds a PGCE teaching certificate. My classroom based experience as a qualified teacher comprises of teaching History, Religious Studies and English (language and literature) in secondary schools, the full primary curriculum whilst working as a primary school teacher and also English as a second language teacher both in the classroom setting and 1-1.

Instead of teaching in schools I now I love two sole roles of doing 1-1 tutoring to both my residential international students as well as a few local students that I teach 1-1 in their own homes each week.  These roles combine my love of teaching, with great variety and flexibility for my days. I also love tailoring lessons to student’s own requirements and preferences.

As a private tutor, I really personalise each lesson for the individual student identifying quickly their strengths and weaknesses. In this way I am able to quickly build confidence leading to improvement and success.  In teaching English as second/foreign language I have in the past done focused lessons on IELTS, Cambridge, Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, Grammar, Tenses, Collocations, Phrasal Verbs, Conditionals, topical discussions etc.  I will be able to give you an accurate international level. I am used to students with all levels of English so you can be confident you will make good progress with your English language skills during your lessons and stay with us.

You will be kept as occupied as you would like. At home if you’re not too tired we will happily play board games or dominoes with you or watch some TV shows or films with you, whatever you prefer. We always sit down around the table to eat our meals giving you plenty of time to put your English lessons into conversational practice and only ever with native English speakers.

We look forward to meeting you soon.

FAVERSHAM - KENT

My experience has been excellent. The Bartholomew family devoted a lot of time to me. Jayne , Steve and Jenny made efforts to speak slowly for me to understand their sentences. There were more tours than planned and there were very nice excursions to different sites in the Kent region.Twice to Dover twice to Canterbury, Whitstable and other places. Jayne made great efforts to adapt her lessons to my needs. At home I had an excellent welcome. The house is great and the food outstanding ! https://www.homestayenglish.uk.com/homestay-teachers-in-kent/
