We are a family of four. Ian is a retired Metropolitan Police Sergeant so in his leisure time enjoys playing golf and talking about history. Both the teenage boys enjoy rugby and swimming whilst working hard at their studies at Sixth Form College and Secondary School.

About me

My name is Gary Dexter. I am a writer, teacher and illustrator, I am friendly! I like learning languages and am working on learning Japanese. I have written and published three novels, as well as many other books, and I draw a cartoon strip for the Spectator magazine. I have contributed to several dictionaries for foreign learners of English. I have taught students in Turkey, Oxford and Norwich, both in a classroom setting and in my own home. I enjoy teaching, and I know that learning a language is difficult. I hope that I am always patient and encouraging. I live with my partner and cat in Norwich. rior to teaching English from home, I worked in management for one of the top four accountancy firms in company law and then in the last 10 years for the same business in marketing and business development. I am also an invigilator at local schools and the University of Nottingham and an exam marker for Cambridge Board for foreign students.
We live in a lovely, modernised four bedroomed 1920’s detached house with separate annexe in Kimberley, Nottinghamshire. There is a large garden with lawns, flower borders, a vegetable garden and a swimming pool (summer-use only). Kimberley is only 7 miles from the lively, university city of Nottingham and is easily connected by bus (every 10 minutes) for cinemas, theatres, historical sites and shopping centres. The nearest train stations are Nottingham, East Midlands Parkway or Derby. Kimberley has its own leisure centre, churches, cricket club, bowling, pubs, library and shops. The nearby countryside is the area of writers such as DH Lawrence and Byron and has beautiful views. Chatsworth House and the Derbyshire Dales are easily accessible for a day trip. Local sport includes Trent Bridge cricket, tennis, canoeing and football.

I live in beautiful, cathedral quarter Lincoln in an 1804, three storey, Grade 2 listed house which is located on a hill with panoramic views of the city to the front and just a five minute walk away from Lincoln cathedral, castle and the renowned Roman Bailgate uphill quarter, with museums, art galleries, cafes, restaurants, individual shops. It is a five minute walk down the hill to the city centre too.
I have been a French and German, and latterly Spanish teacher, for 28 years in a variety of secondary and also primary schools. I am presently Head of MFL at a large secondary near Spalding. I am a BA Hons graduate of French and German from a red brick university and have a PGCE from Liverpool University. I have also taught direct method English to young adults in a language school in Spain. I have hosted English Language assistant teachers in my home from France and Germany and have hosted many foreign teachers whilst leading my school exchanges.
I love travel, meeting people from all over the world, interiors, gardening, cooking, cinema, walking and am very sociable, warm and accommodating.

A fully qualified and experienced ESL/English teacher, I have worked in both secondary and tertiary teaching and management roles within the education sector for almost 15 years. I have a particular interest in Special Needs, teacher training and school improvement. I reside in the city of Leicester which is multicultural and a warm and friendly place to live in. There are lots of places of interest for both young and older people, with Leicester also being easily accessible to other cities such as Nottingham, Derby and Birmingham. Leicester is also very central with very good road and rail links. We live very close to the city centre with very good bus routes and services. It is also a 5 to 10 minutes walk to our train station.

We are a family of five – I live with my husband and four children. I have three sons (aged 20 years, 17 years and 11) and one daughter who is the youngest at only 6 months old.

The nearest airport is East Midlands Airport but Birmingham Airport offers a broader range of flights to and from many global countries.

I live in an ideal location for ½ day or full day cultural/tourist activities, which can also be the focus for dynamic applied English lessons where students develop their understanding of tenses and sentence construction as they experience English culture (i.e. visiting castles, chocolate and car factories, museums – Tolkien Museum, Shakespeare’s Stratford, Science, History & Arts museums, Edwardian homes – Birmingham City Centre and its historic Gas Street Basin Canal System and fabulous Bull Ring shopping area. Did you know there are more canals in Birmingham than Venice? Did you know that Birmingham has the largest library in Europe?
Birmingham is a great location for visiting other locations in England. Escorted day trips can also be provided for instance, travelling by train from Birmingham New Street Station is approximately a 90 minute journey to London, Liverpool, Oxford or even the Harry Potter Film Studio in Watford.
I have a comfortable spacious home with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, toilets and a rear garden. In the garden, there is an area with table/chairs for summer outside meals, games and even lessons. I have family, neighbours and friends living close by and homestay students can expect to be included in family parties, cultural celebrations (i.e. New Year, Halloween, Bonfire Night, music festivals) and card/board games with other children, teenagers and adults. There are 4 native English children, for instance, living next door who enjoy spending time and talking with my younger/teenager homestay students.

I have been teaching English to international students for several years, mostly Spoken English for Work (SEW) from A2 – C2. My husband and I have hosted guests for more than 20 years and have made many lifelong friends from across the globe. We live in Solihull, a town that is on the edge of both Birmingham and the countryside. Our house, a comfortable and spacious 5 bedroom detached home, is in a quiet cul-de-sac with a small garden, ideal for relaxing in during the Summer months. The guest room has a double bed, small wardrobe and bedside table. There is an en suite wet room with washbasin, shower and WC. Nearby is Shirley railway station, with trains taking you to either Birmingham city centre or beautiful Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare. Local buses make travelling into Birmingham or Solihull very easy. Local places of interest include many National Trust properties, Warwick Castle, Avoncroft Museum, Black Country Living Museum and the wonderful Cotswold countryside is just an hour’s drive away.
